‘Our Darker Purpose’ is Fantastic and Could Use Your Support

Our Darker Purpose

From the twisted minds of Avidly Wild Games comes Our Darker Purpose, a roguelike RPG filled with humor, procedurally generated levels and wonderful writing. Taking place in an orphanage and following the story of Cordy, a young child who has been abandoned and left on her own at the Edgewood Home for Lost Children, you must fight to survive. As you see below, following the disappearance of Cordy’s only hope, Mr. L, everyone and everything swirls into the darkness and turns against you.

One day before Cordy’s ninth birthday, however, Mr. L steps out of the room and doesn’t come back. As days go by, the students discover that all the teachers have vanished, and one by one descend into their darker instincts. The strongest arm themselves and prey upon the weak. Things that should not be allowed into the school crawl down through the chimneys and up from the cellars. As Cordy waits at her desk, following Mr. L’s final instructions, various factions battle for control of the Edgewood Home. And when Cordy rises to seek answers from the mysterious administrators who live atop the building, she discovers she has gained powers of her own…

To put it simply, Our Darker Purpose is a deeper, darker, and more expansive version of the game The Binding of Isaac. But don’t even begin to think that this game was made to take from Isaac in any way. Our Darker Purpose contains an immense amount of uniquity and all of its features mix and blend together to make a fantastical cornucopia of horror and humor that this world needs.

Our Darker Purpose

Personally, I would love to see this game completely funded before their time is up. Sure, they could use a hefty boost, but what’s $15,000 in 4 days? If we all band together and share this wonderful mix of RPG and roguelike goodness, I believe they can make it. If you read this article and are still on the fence, head over to the Kickstarter page and download the demo. If actually playing the game doesn’t change your mind, I won’t honestly know what to say.

About

When her teacher stepped out of the classroom a month ago, Cordy never imagined he would be gone for good. Now her fellow students have turned on each other as the school descends into chaos. Cordy must battle feral classmates and dangerous creatures as she ascends to the cruel Administrators’ offices atop the Edgewood Home for Lost Children.

Our Darker Purpose is a top-down, rogue-like action RPG that combines the ingenuity of genre-defining classics with the expansiveness and accessibility of modern day action adventure games. The gameplay is steeped in a variety of influences ranging from A Link to the Past to The Binding of Isaac to Diablo. We love games with great mechanics and awesome, bizarre storylines, and that’s what we’re creating with Our Darker Purpose.

Each playthrough features a unique set of procedurally generated levels. Death is permanent, but your accomplishments earn you resources to buy lesson and upgrades in the afterlife… and your education lasts forever. Every game teaches you more about the Edgewood Home for Lost Children, the disappearance of the adults, and the darker purpose of the Administrators.

Does it have a save button? Isaac did not, and I honestly didn’t find the shock humor that appealing anyway.

It does indeed have a save file.

Well at least it’s not one of those games where you don’t lose all of your progress except bonus unlocks because you have a life outside video games or whatever.
